Layers of Love for someone special stretched my creativity. I like a challenge! This card features Penny Black, Spellbinders and Honeybee stamp products and has loads of layers, yet feminine with a happy vibe. Heartfelt Hello!

As a colorist, doing a card with primarily die cuts and layers is challenging, so using a cohesive palette is the key to success. (No expert here!)

Creation

While this was a process, I started by thinking about how I might decorate a shelf in my home. Once I colored the Penny Black Charisma stamp and die cut it, I had my focal point. I knew I was going with a cool palette of Grays and lavenders, so I started by doing a few stenciled panels in lavender, several embossed panels in white, and found this polka dot paper in my stash. Using a wood grain embossing folder, I inked it with a cool gray ink and embossed on white cardstock. Also from Penny Black, I keep several of these wreaths cut from the Soaring set (since every shelf needs a wreath 😊). Since I used a light blue that was on the warmer spectrum for the jar, the cool-tan wreath blended nicely.

If you follow me, you know I keep a stash of spellbinders flowers cut to grab for “embellishment”. They have a ton of options to choose from and I’ve collected many over the years. The sentiment is the Honeybee Stamp Heartfelt Hello, and might be my top-used set. I stamped it in a deep Violet (almost black).

Back to the stash. When I cut backgrounds or anything that cuts a tiny heart, I save them all. In this case I used one topped with purple glitter gel and one in white for the jar.

Assembly of this A6 card was no different than decorating your home. I had several options in front of me and just tried different things and moved them around until I liked it and glued down. The wood panel and jar were popped up with foam tape. What is your process for layered cards? Hope you enjoyed this!

  1. Such a pretty card Kathy – love the subtle, but fascinating background with the various layers and textures. The jar and flowers make a beautiful focal point, especially with the addition of the wreath, oh, and the sweet wee hearts.
