Create your own path. Even when I try different types of cards, I’m just not as satisfied unless I have either a Copic colored or watercolor element combined with something elegant. What’s your style?
To mat or not to mat. I’m normally a fan of matting. But your layout and style will dictate that. In this case I copic colored the Springtime Whimsy Stamps stamp. Since it’s the focal image, to make it interesting I pulled out my scroll embossing folder, trimmed the image and mounted the embossed background and the image to an A2 card base.
Selecting colors can be a challenge for some. For me, I chose 3 colors I planned on using. Pink, Brown and Green. To make the card cohesive, any green that was colored was matched with an ink pad for the embossing technique and the same went for the Brown strip and the branch.
Creating shadows. Regardless of the Medium, shadows are important. Since Copics are transparent, it makes it easier. When working on your shadows, keep in mind that all shadows are closer to the blue spectrum. You can use a darker hue of the same color, but if you choose a darker hue that is bluer in nature it will be more realistic. For instance, the branch deep shadows are actually a blue-gray instead of brown and the bunny deep shadows are muted purple instead of tan.
For the embossed panel, I ink blended with Distressed ink that matches the green in the image, then dry embossed with the folder. For the antique look, I spattered this with water and mopped up the water here and there with a paper towel.
I think I achieved Cute meets Elegant. What do you think?
