New Baby Hugs

Reflecting today on the times in my life when we were welcoming a new precious bundle to our world. I was a mother of two wonderful sons. Looking back, life was simple although I didn’t see it at the time. Cherish your babies – old and young – life is short.

I love Anita Jeram’s illustrations. She manages to capture human emotion in animals in the most heartfelt way. This illustration is from Colorado Craft New Baby stamp❤️

Creation

This A7 card called for watercolor. The image was stamped in gray archival ink on watercolor paper then painted in watercolor. I use a mix of manufacturers for my watercolors, but my go-tos are Daniel Smith and Winsor and Newton Professional line.

For the topper, I ink blended with Blue Denim Distressed ink on watercolor paper then die cut with a retired die from my stash. However, Papertrey Ink has an Elegant Edges line, where many of these would work as well.

From regular cardstock, I ink blended the Reds to get the exact tone I was seeking, then cut the bow and hearts along with 6 small strips from this.

The assembly is evident but in short the watercolor piece was adhered to a card base the the topper was popped up with foam. The strip and bow were glued directly to the topper with some foam to pop up the heart. Pearl Nuvo drops finished out the piece.

What do you think? Hopefully you’ll give this a try.

  1. What a beautiful card Kathy – love how you have painted the rabbit family, that certainly is a beautiful stamp! Your topper is gorgeous, and I did not realise that the bow, ribbons, and heart were made of paper at first glance! haw do you get your Nuvo drops so perfectly round – mine always have tails, no matter what I do.

    1. Hello Maxine. Thank you. I’m glad you liked it. For any of the drops, including Nuvo, tap the container to get the bubbles out. On a scrap, do your first drop then hold the container perpendicular to the surface. Squeeze and while you lift up stop squeezing at the same time (you’re sucking up a little back into the container). You’ll have a little “hat”. Tap your card against a hard surface and they will layer out. Hope that makes sense.
